Staycation Houston

March 10, we did a Staycation Houston. Staycation is staying in a hotel near your home city.

Grandpa gifted me TobyMac tickets at the Toyota Center for Christmas. TobyMac is one of my favorite artists. We decided to stay at the Hilton Americas-Houston.  It was a little pricey but we didn’t have to spend money on airfare and it’s across the street from the Toyota Center.

We left Friday around noon from our house. We stopped at Saint Arnold Brewery, Texas’ Oldest Craft Brewery north of downtown Houston and we had lunch.  We haven’t been in a long time and it has changed a lot. They have a beautiful patio to eat your food and visit with family and friends.  I wanted to go there because it’s Lent and I could have fish. But when I ordered my food I forgot all about Lent.  I ordered chicken salad and Terry ordered a grilled cheese sandwich. My salad had tiny pieces of chicken in it. Lol. Saint Arnold was looking out for me. But it was delicious.

After lunch, we looked at some of the murals down the street.  Here’s Houston Mural Map.   As a born Houstonian, I’ve never been down on the banks of Buffalo Bayou Park.  We walked around and took pictures. We didn’t have time for the Buffalo Bayou Tours or the Houston’s Cistern.  Cistern is an underground, former water reservoir and is open for touring.  Next time, we will spend more time at Buffalo Bayou Park.

After visiting the Buffalo Bayou, we went to our hotel and checked in.  Our room was nice and we had a beautiful view of Discovery Green Park.  After relaxing we went downstairs to Pappasito’s Cantina for dinner before the concert.  It was packed and the wait was over an hour.  So we went to the Hotel Bar and Grill on the same level.  We had a nice dinner and walked over to the Toyota Center.

Tody Mac is a contemporary Christian music singer who has sold over 10 million albums and won seven Grammy Awards.  Along with TodyMac was Crowder, Cochren & Co, Tasha Layton, Jon Reddick & Terrian.

The concert was so good!  We had good seats right in the middle.  We went to a Lauren Daigle (2021) show, and Terry got floor tickets.  I didn’t like it!  Everyone on the floor stands up for the whole concert.  I enjoy sitting down at a concert.

Saturday morning, after eating breakfast downstairs, we packed up.  We planned an 80 minute tour at  Houston City Tours.  As a born Houstonian, I learned some neat history.  Also, it was fun to see Houston on a double-decker bus.  Houston was having a St Patrick’s Day parade.  We were part of the parade for one block.  I was waving at people like I was someone important.  After the tour, we headed home.  We enjoyed our two days in downtown Houston.
