Sundays are for relaxation and enjoying the day with family. The last thing I want to do is spend a long time in the kitchen preparing dinner and be left with a sink full of dirty dishes. Pot Roast is one of my favorite Sunday meals to make for Grandpa and me. It’s hearty and comforting.
Grandpa and I spent our Thanksgiving weekend visiting and exploring Waco, Texas. Waco is my favorite getaway from Houston, an easy 2.5 hour road trip Northwest from our home.
I enjoy reading non-fiction books about faith, crime, politics, and autobiographies. For years, I read physical books in my hands and then I transitioned to reading ebooks using the Nook app on my iPad. Now I exclusively listen to audiobooks. It allows me the ability to listen while cleaning, sewing, or working on other projects around the house. Grandpa and I enjoy listening to books on road trips.
This week I’m sharing books that I have recently read, are currently reading, and books on my reading list.
Veterans Day 2022 is Friday, November 11. Do you have a tradition of flying the American Flag in your yard, or perhaps you are interested in starting one? Do you need a refresher course on how to handle and display Old Glory?
This week I share the tradition that Grandpa and I have, and a summary of the rules and guidelines for properly flying the American Flag.
A few weeks ago, we attended a family wedding in San Diego, California. We split our time between our family and did some sightseeing. We had a great time, but we did have some challenges.
Geocaching is free, family-friendly fun. It is an outdoor activity where you use a GPS (Global Positioning System) with your phone or a handheld GPS navigator along with the app. You look for containers called “geocaches” or “caches.”
On October 1, we decided to visit Katy Heritage Park & Historical Homes. They have a tour of the homes on the first weekend of the month. It covers Katy’s history & explains how the Katy Tigers (football) got their name. Go Tigers. The park has several historical markers.
We did one geocaching off Katy Frwy. Grandpa found the area, but I found the geocache. It’s called “Courage, The Cowardly Cache.”
There are other museums to visit in Katy. Johnny Nelson Katy Heritage Museum, Katy Veterans Memorial Museum, and MKT Railroad Depot & Park. We will have to do it later.
Top Left: Tomboy and the Champ is the only movie ever filmed in Katy. Historical Marker “The Stockdick House,” old telephone, the geocache map, and Katy Heritage Park.
Grandpa & I did a “Hwy I-10 Scavenger Hunt” between Brookshire & Schulenburg. I planned we would find some unique landmarks, Texas Historical Markers, do geocaching, take selfies at murals and try some new breweries in Brookshire, Sealy, Columbus, Weimar, & Schulenburg. While driving, I saw a Spoetzl Brewery (brewery for Shiner beer) sign off HWY I-10. I don’t like beer, but I enjoy listening to bands. So, we decided to make it our last stop.
I came across a brochure called “Adventure 290 Texas,” a scavenger hunt of 8 towns along Hwy 290 between Houston & Austin. I looked up online & found different web pages on the “Adventure 290 Texas” scavenger hunts.
We enjoy going to Ninfa’s Mexican Restaurant on Navigation St. before an Astros game. The food is delicious but expensive, about $50, including the tip for Grandpa & me. However, the parking is free at Ninfa’s.
David’s comfortable world is turned upside down when his birthmother unexpectedly reaches out to him, longing to meet the 18-year-old son she’s only held once.
