Update
Update on the Bag of Goodies. I received a clear bag, postcards, a pen, seeds & other items for doing the “Adventure 290 Texas.” The bag of goodies is nice, but doing the scavenger hunt was the fun part.

Skip to contentI came across a brochure called “Adventure 290 Texas,” a scavenger hunt of 8 towns along Hwy 290 between Houston & Austin. I looked up online & found different web pages on the “Adventure 290 Texas” scavenger hunts. This one is from Elgin Chamber – https://www.elgintxchamber.com/adventure-290/
We decided to do the adventure over Labor Day weekend 2022. The hunt is from Chappell Hill to Elgin, TX. We left our home on Friday and arrived at the RV park in Carmine between Chappell Hill & Elgin. After setting up our travel trailer, we had dinner at JW’s Steakhouse. It was delicious. We will be back.
Saturday, we started the scavenger hunt in Carmine. We hunted five towns: Carmine, Giddings, Paige, McDade & Elgin. We had lunch in Elgin before heading back to our RV park.
Sunday, we headed to Brenham & had breakfast. After breakfast, we started our hunt in Chappell Hill and returned to Brenham, finally ending in Burton. Next, we headed back to Carmine; however, we decided to go to Round Top for dinner. We found Round Top by accident. — This is what I read during dinner about Round Top — “We’re fine dining mixed with front-porch living. Yep, Round Top’s a way of life. Our Texas version of Aspen (according to “Texas Monthly”) is a year-round escape from the big-city bustle. No traffic, no smog, no place you’ll love more.”
We enjoyed the scavenger hunt along Hwy 290. We have traveled Hwy 290 many times but never really thought about the small towns. We stopped only to get to gas or eat off Hwy 290. The scavenger hunt exposed us to the small, sweet & quaint towns. We learned some neat Texas history & some fun facts. We are definitely going back to visit the eight communities.
We left Monday to go home.
